On December 21, 2024, the 2nd National Congress of Chest Wall Surgery was held in Henan Province. The event, hosted by the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University and co-organized by the Institute of Chest Wall Surgery(ICWS), gathered nearly 400 leading experts in chest wall surgery from all over the country to share and discuss the latest advancements in diagnostic and treatment techniques, as well as experiences in discipline development. Led by Director Wenlin Wang, surgeons from ICWS participated in the event, enriching it with substantial professional content and fostering in-depth discussions on key topics.

As the pioneer of Chest Wall Surgery discipline, Director Wenlin Wang served as the honorary chair of the conference, and his keynote speech provided guidance for the future development and construction of the discipline. Following his address, six experts from ICWS delivered exceptional presentations, showcasing the latest technical advancements across various areas of chest wall surgery.

First, Vice Director Weiguang Long presented the latest treatment concepts and techniques for chylothorax, offering new perspectives to the field of chest wall surgery. Dr. Liu Yang then shared the experiences from the only 6 surgeries for straight back syndrome performed worldwide and introduced the most advanced techniques for chest wall reconstruction. Dr. Bin Cai followed by discussing the treatment strategies for chest wall infection. Dr. Juan Luo then shared the team’s expertise in the treatment of asphyxiating chest wall dysplasia. Notably, the ICWS has completed 49 such surgeries, ranking first globally in terms of surgical volume. Lastly, Dr. Shaoyi Zheng shared the fundamental principles of chest wall deformity surgery techniques for the first time at an academic conference, providing strong support for technological innovation in the field of chest wall surgery.

At the conference, the experts from the ICWS generously shared their latest research findings and valuable clinical experiences in various key areas, including chest wall deformity, chest wall tumor, chest wall infection, chest wall trauma, chest wall neurosurgery and lymphatics. Their contributions injected strong momentum into the development and technical innovation of the chest wall surgery discipline.
